Jamie’s passion for music and the arts began in the foothills of Oakhurst, California, where she started wind band in the 5th grade. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in music and a minor in child development and family studies from California State University Long Beach, Jamie moved to Colorado in 2021 work as a resident teaching artist through an Americorp program in Commerce City, Colorado, where she observed, collaborated, and taught in the elementary music classroom. Shortly after graduating from ArtistYear Americorps in 2022, Jamie was contracted through the non-profit Education Through Music Colorado, where she worked at Colfax Elementary as the general music teacher. Through this work, Jamie strived to provide a comprehensive, culturally responsive, student-centered music education for students in grades ECE-5. After spending three years in the elementary music classroom, Jamie was ready to expand her own education and is currently pursuing her master’s in music education at CU Boulder. Through Jamie’s work as an educator and student, Jamie has found a deep passion for education and social justice advocacy. She hopes to engage in learning, conversations, and actionable practices to promote equity in the classroom. Outside of working at Altitunes, Jamie loves to make music of her own, spend time with her cat Casey, and explore the natural wonders of this state.
